Yellow split peas do not need soaking before being cooked but it will shorten their cooking time considerably if you do soak. They will expand when cooking so cook in water (best salted and maybe chuck in a bay leaf and a garlic clove or spices such as turmeric and ginger) or stock at least twice the volume of peas. Un-soaked, they will need around 45 minutes of simmering – but test every so often.
Yellow split peas are highly nutritious with a lovely earthy, mild flavour. They will not really hold their shape properly when cooked so are best for soup and stews, dahls and curries. Can also be cooked within a dish – eg a soup or stew and do well in a slow cooker.

PACKAGING
All dried food orders are packed in home compostable brown paper bags. Some food items contain natural oils which may be absorbed by the brown paper bags. Some natural oils may seep through onto other items. We recommend putting your dried food items in airtight or semi airtight containers to retain freshness.
